606 Corner Cabinet
Several years ago, I was given an Altec 606 mahogany corner cabinet along with a 604c by a very dear friend who had worked in the recording industry. His name was Bob Eberenz and he worked with the legendary Robert Fine at Fine Recording in New York. Bob has since passed away so this gift has great sentimental value for me. The speaker and cabinet have been in storage for various reasons and I have decided to finally get it on display and start enjoying it.
I've found a dealer who has a matching cabinet/speaker and he's asking $1500 for one in excellent condition. I've asked him to hold it for me and will be picking it up in a few months.
Is this the only corner cabinet designed by Altec and what years were they sold? Also, how rare are these cabinets?
I'm also curious how this will sound compared to a conventional cabinet? I'll be listening primarily to 50's/60's pop, pre-1970's rock, jazz and classical. My amp is a restored Fisher x-100-B.
Many thanks for your advice, I really appreciate the great information on this forum!
Best,
Bob

Re: 606 Corner Cabinet
Thank you very much, I really appreciate your advice!
I believe I'll hold off on the Valencia pair on eBay for $2500 and wait to get the matching 606 for $1500 later this year.
Do you know how many years the 606 cabinet was manufactured?

Re: 606 Corner Cabinet
Your Welcome Bob ! Welcome again to the board.
One point I was trying to make on the Valencias is that for $2500 you could easily pick-up a pair of Model 19's for way less than that. And the 19 was Altec's Flagship Home speaker system.
Best Regards ~ John
